1. How did you become an illustrator? Do you like the label?
I discovered my passion for illustration when I was in college, and it quickly became a flame that sparked my creativity. I pursued it as a self-taught artist and later studied it as my major in the UK. It naturally evolved into my career as an illustrator. I don't mind being called an illustrator, as it simply reflects my chosen profession. However, I do not appreciate the stereotypes that come with the label, as there are no limits to what an illustrator can create.
2. Where are you based now and who do you work for?
I am currently based in London, and I am working on my new picture book project while also teaching an online illustration course.
3. How would you describe your style?
My style can be described as subtle, emotive, and evoking a dreamy atmosphere.
4. What's your secret to staying inspired and motivated?
My passion for expressing my feelings through drawing serves as my language to communicate with others and build connections. It's also a way for me to release my emotions. Drawing is the fuel that powers my creativity, and it keeps me inspired and motivated to continue creating.

6. Can you tell us about your recent award-winning collection briefly?
My award-winning project, "Blue Moon," is a short comic that emerged from a deep emotional space. During the isolation of the pandemic year, I experienced profound loneliness and loss, and the memories of life after COVID-19 were vividly etched in my mind. I felt as though I had submerged myself in an emotional ocean, and I channeled these feelings into creating this short comic.
7. How did you start this project? How did you conceive of the series?
Once I had the idea, I began to envision the final form for my project. I ultimately decided that a short comic would be the most suitable way to convey the story. I created storyboards to test different colors, materials, layouts, and compositions, in order to effectively communicate the emotions and story I wanted to convey. I then developed a specific timeline and plan to make the project more feasible.
8. How has the experience of studying abroad influenced your creative work?
Studying abroad has had a significant impact on my creative work in various ways. It has noticeably influenced my illustration style, but more importantly, it has changed the way I perceive the world and myself. I have become more open to embracing different art forms and have broadened my perspective by visiting museums and galleries. Studying abroad has pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to take risks and experiment more bravely in my artistic endeavors.
9.What kinds of tools do you typically use and how do they impact your work?
I enjoy using both traditional and digital drawing methods, and I am always seeking a balance between the two. I find that they complement each other and help me achieve the desired outcomes in my work. Hand drawing allows me to express my individuality and personal touch, while digital tools enable me to achieve greater precision and accuracy in my drawings.
10. As an independent illustration artist with more free time, how do you organize your day?
My daily routine typically revolves around my projects. I wake up naturally and then begin drawing or teaching, based on my daily plan. I make sure to take breaks during the day to go to the gym or go for a walk, allowing myself to temporarily escape from work and recharge. I then return to work and spend some time reading before bed, as a way to unwind and relax.

11. How would you comment on your past works and what kind of works are perfect in your opinion?
For me, my past works are a reflection of who I was at that moment in time. They hold memories and emotions, and looking back at them is like flipping through an old photo album. Even if some of them may not be visually perfect in terms of execution, I still appreciate them because they represent my passion for storytelling or expressing emotions. To me, what makes a work perfect is not solely based on technical skills or forms, but rather the ability to convey a story or evoke emotions.
12. Please recommend a movie you like and the top three soundtracks you enjoy listening to when working.
One movie that I highly recommend is "Amélie." It's a visually stunning and heartwarming film that captures the whimsical beauty of everyday life.
As for soundtracks, the top three that I enjoy listening to when working are:
"Serpentskirt" by Cocteau Twins
"Pandora" by Dario Marianelli (from the movie "Pride & Prejudice" soundtrack)
"White Mustang" by Lana Del Rey
These soundtracks have a captivating and immersive quality that helps me stay focused and inspired while I work on my illustrations.
